A Blessing for the Table

A Blessing for the Table

God of kitchen counters and dining room tables

You set a place for each of us

a feast of friendship and family

neighbors and strangers

the lost and lonely –

there’s room for us all.

Help us to savor

conversations of hope

words of forgiveness

the lingering smell of coffee

the laughter of children

the abundance of your love.

Teach us to remember

those who hunger

friends who feel forgotten

the neighbors who are new

the workers who must work

that all may feel your love.

God of fresh made bread and leftovers

satisfy our hungers

quench our thirst

send us out with food to feed neighbors

hearts willing to listen

arms reaching out in love.

God of the table,

prepare a place for us

to love and be loved

to know and be known

to forgive and be forgiven.

We come to you, God,

for your richness of grace

a place to feast at your table, always.

Amen.
